Makeup Review and Swatches – BYS Peach Eyeshadow Palette

Now I want to dive straight into this review and honestly say that in the past, I have hated the brand BYS. I remember using this brand when I was a young teenage earning about $50 a week and this level of makeup was about all that I could afford. Now maybe I am incorrect, but I feel as though ‘affordable/cheap’ makeup was pretty damn awful about seven-ish years ago when I first start out in makeup and I am pretty glad to say that I feel as though makeup really has come a long way since then. However, I still have the bad taste of my BYS experience left in my mouth and I was very hesitant to pick up this palette and give it a go.

I have noticed a few Aussie beauty gurus use this brand a lot recently, including one of my favourites, Cindy Lou Bindy. I started seeing with my own eyes that this brand has come a long way and seems to be producing good quality products, still with an affordable price tag. This is when I thought that I would give BYS another shot. I also really admire that this brand is cruelty-free too, which is a huge plus.

So the first initial thing that stands out to be about this palette is the packaging. I actually really love the tin that these eyeshadows come in and I really admire how secure the palette feels. I also really enjoy that this palette actually clicks close which is so lovely because I know that if I was to take this palette travelling, it would not come undone. I also love how this palette is actually coloured, which I really appreciate since when I have all of my palettes lined up, it is so much easier to see which one I want. I will admit though, the packaging is not perfect and I find this palette extremely hard to get open and closed, which is slightly annoying.

Now, to move onto the thing that first pulled me in about this palette, the colour selection. When I first saw this palette, I was so intrigued by how amazing and how many peachy shadows there are. I really love the fact this palette has some lighter colours, some nude colours and then the all mighty peach shades. I feel as though with this one palette, you can create a ton of different looks from a pop of colour, to a full peach look, to something darker or even something more natural looking. I also really appreciate that there are three matte shades in this palette as well; now that may not sound like a lot, but when using this palette, it did feel like enough.

There are something things though, about this colour selection that I feel on the fence about. I don’t know about you guys, but, I just feel like I wish that there were more peach shades. There are five peachy shades and seven none peach shades, which kind of makes me a bit annoyed because this is a peach palette, so give us more of that colour. However, my other side says that firstly, this palette is supposed to be a dupe for the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette, which I can see how people would think that, but at the same time, I don’t personally think that it is. I believe that the BYS palette has a lot more peachy colours in it than the Too Faced one; now this makes my original argument a bit weird because this palette is way more peachy than the original peach palette, so maybe I just want too much.

The biggest thing that I was worried about when it came to this palette was the quality of the actual shadows. In the past when I used BYS eyeshadows, honestly, they were awful, so I went into this a bit sceptical. Initially, when it came to the swatches, I was so impressed by the pigment of these shadows. Now a swatch really isn’t going to tell you that much about the quality of the shadow, but, it did at least tell me that these shadows have some promise to them. When I did my swatches though, I did notice that when I rubbed my finger also the shadow, sometimes they would actually ball up a bit, which is very strange and have never experience that before.

When I applied these shadows to my eyes, I was so surprised by how good they were. The pigment was definitely there, but not so intense that it was hard to work with. I found that these colours really did blend nicely and they lasted well and truly all day, which I was not expecting. I have tried almost all of the colours in this palettes and they all perform the same which is fantastic. The only drawback is that there is a decent amount of kickback in the pan, but for me personally, I don’t find that to be a huge con. I didn’t find that these eyeshadows creased at all (yes I did use a primer) and the pigment was strong all day long which was amazing.

Overall, I was extremely pleased with this palette. I am a little bit of an eyeshadow snob and really have not found any affordable eyeshadow palettes here in Australia that I love before. Of course, like almost any product in the world, this palette has a few cons, but I don’t believe them to be anything too bad and I really think that this product is one of those rare find that I truly think cheats the system. I do 100% think that this palette is worth so much more than they charge, but of course, I am so happy that it is so affordable. There are about ten different tins available at the moment and I know that there have been more in the past, so hopefully, there will be more in the future. I absolutely recommend this palette and I can not wait to buy more.
