I am pretty excited to share this review of the Karen Murrell lipstick with you guys as this is a wonderful product that I received in my January Bellabox. Now as you probably already know, I am a huge fan of lipsticks and I love using both high end and more affordable lipsticks, so I was very keen to give this one a go.
- Brand – Karen Murrell
- Colours – 7
- Amount of Product – 4g
- Price – $29.95AUD
Now I’d like to start off first by talking about the price. These lipsticks retail for about $30, which for me puts them into the high-end category. There are many other lipsticks that are in a similar price range, including my favourite lipstick of all time, which is the Mac lipsticks, so I have my standards quite high. Unfortunately, I do believe that if you pay more for a product, you should expect a higher quality.
When it comes to packaging, I do have a slightly mixed feeling. Now this lipstick is actually very simple a black lipstick with the logo and a small quote on it; now I do actually like this style of packaging. Both the Mac, ELF and I believe a few other brands do a very simple black lipstick packaging and I do like how simple and timeless it is. However, it is so hard to figure out what the colour is and if you owned more than one, or forgot what the colour was, the packaging won’t tell you. Even though I do like a timeless black packaging, I would prefer if companies included a small strip of the colour in the packaging like the ELF lipsticks do.
Now, these lipsticks claim to be an all natural which is something that is very fantastic, especially in the modern day. I personally am not a super crazy ‘all natural’ person, but I have been trying to include more natural things into my skincare and makeup routine, so this is fantastic how natural it is. When I read the ingredients list, I was taken back by how many amazing oils there are in this lipstick, which is so fantastic. I don’t know of many other lipsticks that include these many amazing products for your skin.
The probably most important part of the review would have to be the application and the amount of time it lasts. Now first off, this lipstick did not apply as pigmented as I first thought it was going to be. I found that this lipstick was a little sheer than some others that I have in a similar price range and when it comes down to it, I feel like the look of this is more like a stain versus a fully opaque lip colour. If this is something you are interested in, then you will really like this product, however, I don’t know how I feel about this because the product is supposed to be an actual lipstick.
As for the longevity of this product, it is decently ok. I have worn this lipstick quite a few times already and I do find that it lasts a few hours, however, I also do find that the colour intensity does fade within the first couple of hours. Now that may not make a lot of sense, but basically if when you put the lipstick on at first the intensity is a 10, by the two-hour mark, I feel as though it drops to about a 7, then just keeps going down from there. When it comes to food, I do find that this lipstick does not handle it at all. When I ate with this, it completely came off, but worse than that, there was an awful like around my lips which I hate. I find that some of my other lipsticks within the same range all fade nicely around my whole lip and doesn’t leave a line.
I do, however, really like the way this lipstick feels. I find this lipstick to be extremely moisturising and does not make my lips feel dry at all. To go one step further, I find that this lipstick actually works pretty similar to a lip balm and nourishes my lips as well as provides colour.
- Natural Ingredients
- Good range of colours
- Feels super moisturising
- A bit expensive
- Not super long lasting
- Leaves line on outer lips
- Sheer Colour
Now I know that this review is coming off super negative, but unfortunately, this just isn’t a lipstick that screams out to me. I do find that there are better lipsticks out on the market either for less or in a similar price range. Now I understand the appeal of a natural lipstick and as far as I personally know, there aren’t many other natural lipsticks out there. I do enjoy using this lipstick when my lips are a little drier as they are super moisturizing, however, I don’t normally wear this lipstick when I am planning on eating anytime soon. Overall, I probably wouldn’t repurchase this lipstick, however, I also am not upset that I own it either.
